No Bag Day: Schools in Dakshina Kannada are the first to implement this

July 10: Dakshina Kannada district, has become the first in the state to implement No Bag Day. The programme has been successfully relaunched across the district for this academic year.
Few schools have implemented no bag Saturday every week, few school are doing it twice a month, and a few have opted for every third Saturday as no Bag Day.
No Bag Day was voluntarily implemented by schools in Dakshina Kannada few years ago which was a big hit. This year, MHRD has issued an order to observe No Bag Day across the country to reduce the weight on the shoulders of students. A circular was issued by the Government asking all government and private schools in the state to observe No Bag Day on the third Saturday of every month.
A block education officer explained that on No Bag Day child students do not carry their bags or books to schools. Instead they involve themselves in a lot of activities related to their syllabus. Students are made to use library and laboratory in No Bag Day. Along with this dance and various art forms are also taught to the children. This is done reduce the burden of the children as well as enjoy leaning.
