Parking Problem & Footpath Encroachment in Mangalore City: MCC Takes Measures

Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) council meeting was held recently during which corporators raised several issues with regard to parking, traffic problems and footpath encroachments. There was a demand to resume Operation Tiger (an eviction drive). On unauthorised petty shops encroaching upon footpaths, the mayor directed officials to clear the petty shops immediately.

Chief whip of the ruling party in the council, Premananda Shetty, said that a lot of changes are being implemented without bringing the issue to the notice of the MCC. Traffic police and MCC should work in coordination, and that any decision on traffic, including introduction of one-way traffic, and laying of speed breakers on the road should be brought to the notice of the MCC, he added.
