Patla Satish Shetty Denied Chance to Perform at Yakshagana: Minister Srinivas Poojary Seeks Report

November 25: Yakshagana Artist Bhagavatha Patla Sathish Shetty who had come on the stage to perform during the first show of this season’s tour of Kateel Yakshagana troupe at Kateel on Friday, was denied a chance to perform and was asked to leave. The video in which Patla Sathish Shetty was asked to leave has gone viral on social media and has angered several people.
Kalladi Deviprasad Shetty, director of the troupe has clarified the incident and said that on Friday at 12.30, Satish had come to the chowki (place where the artistes in the play do make up and wear costumes) and received the prasada. But he went away without speaking Deviprasad though he was  present at the spot. Deviprasad had later called and in front of everyone, told him not to do the Bhagavathike this time. He also said that it was decided that Patla Satish Shetty will not be allowed to perform in this year’s tour of the Kateel troupe as he did not obey any discipline pertaining to the troupe and had not participated in any of the traditional activities of the Kateel Yakshagana troupe after the completion of last year’s tour of the troupe on May 25 at Pattenaje.
In the meantime, District In-charge Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary has directed the Dakshina Kannada deputy commissioner Sindhu Rupesh to submit a detailed report to the government on the present situation of the  troupe and also regarding the incident that occurred on the first performance of this year’s tour.
