Penalty on Faulty Water Meters: This is What Mangalore City Corporation Decides

Mangalore City Corporation council has decided that no penalty will be imposed on water consumers henceforth for not repairing or changing their faulty water meters. The consumers who have not repaired or changed their faulty meters should be issued water bills on the basis of average quantity of water consumed during the period of the first and the subsequent water bills issued. Mayor Premananda Shetty said that consumers may pay the minimum average sum of the previous bills, and there is no need to pay a penalty for the period. He mentioned that after speaking to the MLAs, the MCC has also sent a council resolution seeking revision of water tariff to the government. The mayor said the city corporation will seek the government’s nod to reduce the water tariff in Mangalore city.
