Phalguni River Turns Black: Pollution Becomes A Matter of Concern For The Citizens

January 27: The water of Phalguni river has turned black due to pollution. Dead fishes are also found on the surface of the river. This has become a matter of concern for the locals as the drinking water for gram panchayats of Gurupur, Kandavara, Ganjimutt and Paduperara is being supplied from Phalguni river.
Locals also suspect that this must be the affluent with chemicals that are let into the river by factories on the side of Malavoor dam. Vehicle drivers who pass on the bridge which is across the river, throw garbage into the river. Tons of waste is also  seen flowing on the surface of the river.
Deputy tahsildar Shivaprasad said that water of the river is clear in all parts except the basin and this will be reported to the tahsildar. Small Irrigation department officials have to inspect the quality of water, he added.
