Planning to build a house in Udupi? This rule by Udupi DC is what you need to know
July 11: Deputy Commissioner Hephsiba Rani Korlapati chairs a meeting on central government’s Jal Shakthi Abhiyan, which aims at rejuvenation of water bodies in Udupi on Wednesday, July 10.
During the meeting, DC Korlapati stated that rainwater harvesting (RWH) is mandatory for constructing houses in urban and rural areas. She mentioned that completion certificates will not be issued to houses without no rainwater harvesting facility. Korlapati said the houses that are in different stages of construction should incorporate the RWH system and also those planning to construct a house should plan on implementing RWH facility in their building design.
The DC has directed the gram panchayats and Urban local body officials not to issue permits for construction of a house or building, if RWH facility is not included in the building plan. Along with this, rainwater harvesting systems should be considered while issuing permits for private layouts by the Urban Development Authority. She mentioned that this step is taken as Udupi district had faced acute water shortage in summer.
