Plenty of kites at Malpe beach create voter awareness
District Systematic Voters’ Education and Electoral Participation (SVEEP) Committee along with the Malpe Beach Development Committee organized a kite festival at Malpe beach on March 30. The objective of the festival of kites was to create voter awareness and encourage everyone to vote in the parliamentary elections in Udupi district.
There were a variety of kites flying in the sky with different colours, sizes and shapes including those in the shapes of teddy bear, dragon, ring, pipeline and LED kites. The kite festival was inaugurated by Sindhu B. Rupesh, CEO of Zilla Panchayat and President of District SVEEP Committee.
Polling for the Udupi-Chikkamaglauru parliamentary constituency will be held on April 18, and for the Shivamogga parliamentary constituency on April 23.
Persons with disabilities also took part in the voter awareness programme at the beach. They held placards which had the messages of importance of voting in the elections. Along with this, there were several cultural programmes held at the beach. Professional kite flying teams from Bengalore, Mysuru, Chickballapur and other places participated in the fest.
Gracy Gonsalves, Deputy Director of Women and Child Development Department, and many others were present. The fest will continue even on Sunday, march 31.
