Private Four Wheelers with KA19 Registration must pay toll at Surathkal plaza
July 13: Private four-wheelers including cars with KA 19 registration will have to pay toll at the Surathkal toll plaza on the National Highway 66 from July 16. The toll has been fixed at Rs 25 by the contractor of the plaza. One can travel any number of times through the toll plaza in a month by purchasing a pass for Rs 265.
Even though the firm operating the toll plaza in Surathkal, Messrs Keshav Agarwal, had announced collection of toll from local vehicles from March 1, the local vehicles were exempted from payment at the plaza after opposition by the local residents on March 1.
Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil has written to the Police Commissioner Sandeep Patil to provide suitable protection to the toll.
T he firm had written to the chairman of the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) that it will incur a loss of Rs 2 lakh a day if it did not collect toll from the local vehicles. The NHAI had then written to the chief secretary to make arrangements to provide police protection and maintain law and order during toll collection from all private vehicles.
The firm had bid a huge amount for the contract, keeping in mind the hundreds of private cars, which pass through the toll.
