Proposal to remove Mangalore from Palakkad division: MP Kateel bats for a separate division

June 28: Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel proposed to remove Mangalore from Palakkad division. Union railway minister Piyush Goyal tabled a reply to a question from MP Elamaram Kareem, regarding removal of Mangalore from Pallakad division and MP Nalin’s proposal for a separate division for Mangalore.
MP Nalin Kumar Kateel on Thursday presented his wish list to the minister with this proposal. But the Reply stated that ministry has rather taken steps to improve revenue and facilities of Palakkad division.
The steps taken by the ministry include attaching of additional coaches to trains as per demand along with running of special trains. Steps have also been taken to identify areas at stations and other premises for promoting commercial publicity and vehicle parking. Additional platforms and extension of existing pit lines of coaching depot have also been sanctioned for Mangalore Central in order to handle more trains.
MP Nalin mentioned that the railway minister has categorically ruled out setting up any more divisions across any of the zonal railways in the near future.
