Rising Cases of Zika Virus in Kerala: Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi to be More Vigilant

As there are rising cases of Zika virus in neighbouring Kerala, Karnataka state Governement has issued guidelines to prevent the spread of the disease in the state. The districts like Chamarajanagar, Dakshina Kannada, and Udupi which are close to Kerala have been asked to be more vigilant. During monsoon, the proliferation of Aedes mosquito is common, which is a vector for Zika virus disease, surveillance should be carried in rural and urban areas across the state. The order stated that authority has to conduct Aedes larval surveillance and source reduction activities in airports, sea ports and in rural and urban civic wards. Zika virus presents symptoms like fever, rashes, conjunctivitis and joint pain. Travel history or visit of guests should be considered for suspecting the disease.
