Rumours on Scarcity of Oxygen in DK district: Here is a Clarification You Must Know

Rumours on scarcity of oxygen in Dakshina Kannada district has been doing rounds in few news channels. News stating that the oxygen available in Mangalore would only last for the next 24 hours has created panic in the minds of people. As the news regarding the scarcity of oxygen in the district was being covered in news channels, District in-charge minister Kota Srinivas Poojary conducted an emergency meeting along with the MLAs and the MP at the office of deputy commissioner on Monday and sought details from the officials on May 3, Monday.
Dakshina Kannada district DC KV Rajendra clarified that there is no shortage of oxygen in the district. The DC mentioned that 66 hospitals in the district, including government and private, are treating Covid-19 patients and there will be no shortage in the next 24 hours. At present 25 tonnes of oxygen is being supplied from Ballari and Palakkad and a request has been made to state government to increase the quantity of supply. If the current momentum continues, there will be no problems. 430 patients under treatment are dependant on oxygen at present. More than 200 patients are in the ICU and are dependant on ventilators. Additional ventilators will be installed at Wenlock Hospital soon, the DC added.
