Seven Foot-Long Indian Rock Python Rescued From Tree at Kadri Park in Mangalore: Know More
A team of three wildlife rescuers of Mangalore with the help of personnel from Fire and Emergency Services, rescued a 7-foot long Indian Rock Python that was lying atop Deodhar tree in Kadri Park on Sunday (September 8, 2024).
Rescuer Bhuvan Devadiga said he received a call on Saturday evening about a python atop the Deodhar tree, which is located near the fence of the Kadri Park that faces the Deer Park. Mr. Devadiga went to the spot along with fellow rescuers Prasamsha and Rakesh at around 8 p.m. Initially, the team decided to monitor the situation, hoping the snake would leave the tree on its own. However, since the park is frequented by walkers and children, the caller grew concerned and requested an immediate rescue.
Devadiga reached the spot around 8.30pm and observed the python moving down the tree. The snake’s position posed a challenge, as a portion of the branch extended inside the park, while another extended over the road, making the rescue difficult. To assist with the operation, Devadiga called wildlife rescuers Prashamsa Bhandary and Rakesh. By 8.30am, the park association members had informed the department of fire and emergency services, and a fire engine was arranged. At 9am, Devadiga, along with Prashamsa and fire officers, began the rescue operation. Devadiga used the fire department’s ladder to climb the tree and prune the branches, allowing the python to safely slip down into a bag. The snake was later released back into its natural habitat.
