Shiroor Mutt in Udupi Performed The Akki Muhurtha Before Ascending The Paryaya Peeta

Shiroor Mutt in Udupi performed the Akki Muhurtha, the second of the four preliminaries done before the paryaya (handing over responsibilities of performing daily rituals of Krishna temple) on Thursday, March 6.

The next paryaya will be on January 18, 2026. Vedavardhana Tirtha, seer of Shiroor Mutt will ascend the Paryaya Peetha for the first time. He was anointed as the 31st seer of Shiroor Mutt on May 14, 2021.

Akki Muhurtha marks the collection of rice from devotees for mass feeding at the 800-year-old Sri Krishna Mutt-cum-temple established by Sri Madhwacharya, propounder of the Dwaita philosophy.

The biennial paryaya marks the transfer of responsibilities of managing the mutt-cum-temple, and exclusive right to worship lord Krishna, from one mutt to another, among the ashta (eight) Mutts in Udupi.
