Skytrack/Foot Over Bridge Near NITK Surathkal Across NH 66 to be Constructed Soon
A sky track or a foot-over-bridge across National Highway 66 is being constructed for a safe in-campus movement of the NITK community between the eastern and western sides. The foot-overbridge work, which has been delayed by several months, is likely to be completed in a month, say NHAI officials. It is constructed by NHAI and funded by NITK, Surathkal.
K Ravindranath, registrar, NITK, Surathkal said that currently, students cross the national highway to reach the eastern and western sides, or vice versa. However, it will become difficult for everyone once the tollbooth, situated about 12 metres from the institute’s main entrance, is removed. Therefore, for the convenience of the students, the foot-over-bridge across the NH-66 is coming up. The work was supposed to be completed in March, but was delayed. The entry and exit of the skytrack will be inside the institution’s boundary. The facility is exclusively meant for students and staff of NITK, Surathkal. For safety reasons, the skytrack is completely enclosed, including the rooftop. The height from road to skytrack is about 5.5 metres as per NHAI standards. The facility will have an elevator for the differently abled, steps for those who walk, and a ramp for those who use bicycles on campus.
