Smart Bus Shelters in Mangalore Will Soon Have Wifi & Will Also Display Route Numbers

September 6: Mangalore is definitely one of the smart cities and several projects are being implemented for the development of the city. One such project is smart bus shelters.
Managing Director, Mangalore Smart City Limited B H Narayanappa said that Mangalore will soon have bus shelters which will provide real time transit data like route numbers, information on arriving buses with their estimated arrival time as well as information on bus route maps and guides. This will prove beneficial for the elderly, children and physically-challenged,  including tactile and braille boards for the visually-impaired.
This smart bus shelter will also provide facilities like Wi-Fi, mobile charging points and there will be slots for advertisements. The shelter will have CCTV cameras, display information about facilities offered by the corporation as well as information on government programmes and schemes, along with details of vehicle movement. Some of the bus shelters will also have e-toilets.
He said that work on 24 smart bus shelters in Mangalore is in progress and is expected to be completed soon.
Narayanappa mentioned that the public has not yet understood the benefits of these bus shelters and are looking at these shelters just like a normal bus shelter.
