Smart City Projects: A Reason To Worry for Local Internet Service Providers?

November 24: Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) will start laying underground cables as part of its Smart City projects. This has become a reason to worry for more than 100 cable operators in the city.
Several local internet and cable TV service providers have tied up with Mescom to provide internet connections to citizens through electricity poles.
Due to pandemic, the demand for internet services has increased as most of the people are working from home.
Currently, local cable operators are providing internet and cable services to nearly 15,000 houses and business establishments. In case MCC decides to clear the cables overnight or without providing an alternative, many local cable operators will be hit hard.
