State Ignored DK MLAs and Now Centre Ignores Visit to DK Flood Affected Areas

August 26: A team of central government officials has come to the state on August 24 to undertake a study of flood-affected districts in the state. Sources mentioned that the team will not be visiting Dakshina Kannada flood affected Areas.
The tour itinerary of a team is made for three days. The officials had a meeting with the chief minister and have collected details of losses inflicted by floods in the state. . The team has already visited Belagavi on August 25 and has stayed at Bagalkot. On Monday, August 26, the officials will travel Bagalkot district, and Gadag and Dharwad on August 27. After visiting Kodagu district, the team will go back to Bangalore without Visiting flood affected areas in Dakshina Kannada.
This has created a sense of fear among the people of district who are awaiting compensation for the huge losses that they incurred due to the floods.
As per the survey by the district administration has assessed loss of over Rs 750 crore including 944 houses and 1,229.66 hectares of crop. Damage to vented dams runs to hundreds of crore rupees while 22 schools have been damaged. As many as 105 families have been shifted and they need to be provided with permanent settlement. As such, the total loss in the district might be around Rs 2,000 crore.
MP and Karnataka BJP State President Nalin Kumar Kateel said that study tour by the team of officials from the centre was organized on the state secretary’s level. He mentioned that explanation will be sought regarding  the reasons for not including Dakshina Kannada in the tour programme of the team and also assured that talks will be held to make sure that the team visits Dakshina Kannada.
