March 15: In an attempt to promote St Mary’s Island as an adventure sports destination, a team from Slack Mitra, in association with Malpe Beach Development Committee, rigged Udupi’s first slackline at the island.
Slacklining has been introduced at St Mary’s Island.

Sudesh Shetty, head, Mantra Tourism Development Company and in-charge of Malpe Beach, said that this is done to promote St Mary’s Island as a geological marvel as well as to make it an upcoming adventure sports destination.
Zilla panchayat CEO Preeti Gehlot said that this is a good activity for all age groups, and also tests one’ s patience and focus. St Mary’s Island is a geological treasure trove as well as a a hub for island biodiversity and ecology.
The team had arrived from Pune and included Navin Devnani Torres, 27, owner at Slack Mitra, Adhwaith Manohar, 31, slackliner, Kshitij Mittal, 32, an adventure sports promoter and Vinay Tataria, 28, a conservationist.
The slackline has been set between two huge rocks for demonstration purposes and the next session in held in April for bigger crowds beinga regular attraction at the island.
