The Five-Year Term of Mangalore City Corporation Council Led by BJP Ends on February 27

The five-year term of Mangalore City Corporation council, led by the BJP, expires on February 27.

The BJP sat in the treasury benches of the corporation for the first time by ending the two-decade control of the Congress in the civic body by winning the election conducted on September 28, 2007. But it lost the council election conducted on March 7, 2013, to the Congress. The party made it to the council for the second time in the election held on November 12, 2019.

The first mayoral election of the present council was held on February 28, 2020. In the 60-member House, the BJP has 44 councillors, the Congress 14, while the SDPI has two.

The government is yet to announce ward-wise draft reservation for the next election to the council and invite objections if any.
