The Lighthouse At Surathkal To Be Developed Into A Tourist Destination Soon

September 26: The ministry of shipping has proposed to develop the lighthouse at Surathkal into a tourist destination by improving amenities and facilities. MP Nalin Kumar Kateel said that the development project involves undertaking of several works.
A capsule lift will be installed at the lighthouse to facilitate movement of tourists to the top of the structure and a bridge will connect the ground to the lift. The project also includes setting up a public entry gate, security cabin and ticketing counter. The ground floor of the existing building will be converted into a gallery and the lighthouse operation will be shifted to the first floor. The project also includes proper approach from the lighthouse to the beach.
