The Much-Needed Construction of Two-Way Road on Charmady Ghat to Likely Begin in January 2025

The much-needed construction of a two-way road on Charmady Ghat will likely begin in January 2025, provided land acquisition and permissions from various departments are completed on time. The stretch at the beginning of Charmady Ghat, covering approximately 900 meters, is surrounded by houses and private land, which will need compensation. In addition, electricity poles and water pipes will have to be relocated, adding to the overall cost.

The upgraded road will match the width of the Punjalakatte to B C Road stretch, which is 10 meters wide. Currently, parts of Charmady Ghat are just 5.5 to 7 meters wide.

According to the current timeline, the project should be completed within 48 months. The work is expected to begin wherever possible, although traffic disruptions, including possible closures of the ghat for up to two months, are anticipated.
