The New Road Over Bridge on Bondel-Vamanjoor Road Finally Opens For Traffic
The new Road Over Bridge (RoB) over the Mangalore-Mumbai railway line on the Bondel-Vamanjoor Road at Pachchanady has been opened for traffic movement from November 23. While 150 metres of approach road was provided on the Bondel side, 100 metres has been provided on the Vamanjoor side. The new RoB has a width of 12 metres and length of 27.95 metres and was built at an estimated cost of ₹5 crore.
Though work on the RoB was completed in October, motorists were not allowed to use the bridge as the approach roads had not been built. The Bondel-Vamanjoor Road was closed for all kinds of traffic for over a month to facilitate construction of approach roads. Motorists had to wait for a long time at the level-crossing as the Mangalore-Mumbai line is one of the busiest routes in India. Bondel-Vamanjoor Road is a key stretch connecting the airport road to Mangalore-Karkala NH 169. Mangalore City Corporation had recently rebuilt the road using concrete and widened the carriageway.
