The second edition of the Mangalore triathlon organised by Tapasya Foundation will be held on February 18, 2024. DK district minister Dinesh Gundurao promised support from the state government and said that this event should grow internationally, as it will help the economy of the district.
On the demand by the organisers to expedite the proposed Tannirbhavi-Sultan Battery hanging bridge project by December this year, the minister said that after getting the CRZ clearance, the project will take about eight months to be completed. Assembly speaker UT Khader said that the event is being held for a humanitarian cause, and that it will change the face value of the city.
Naveen Chandra Hegde, an organiser, requested the government to ensure that the tourism department is fully involved in the triathlon and beach festival, and urged the government to develop a cycling track on the 9.9 km beachfront to promote wellness. About 4,000 participants from outside Dakshina Kannada and Udupi are expected to participate in the event, he said. An open sea swim, followed by a 40 km cycle ride through the lanes of Mangalore, and a 10km beach run will be held as part of the triathlon.
