The Work on Multi-Level Car Parking Project in Mangalore Has no Significant Progress Even after 2.5 Years

The work on multi-level car parking (MLCP) project at the bustling Hampankatta junction in Mangalore city was started on November 2 2021 but there has been no significant progress in the work even after two-and-a-half years. The multi-level car parking with a capacity for 400 vehicles, was intended to be constructed under the public-private partnership (PPP) model on 1.5 acres, at an estimated cost of Rs 94 crore.

Officials from the Mangalore Smart City Limited (MSCL) have stated that only the foundation work has been finished. The construction of the project was planned to be implemented on a design-build-finance-operate and transfer (DBFOT) basis, under which the concessionaire will design, finance, construct, maintain, and operate the project. While the construction must be completed in 36 months, the concession period will be for 30 years.
