When his father was hospitalized a year and a half ago, they had a health insurance policy but had to pay for immediate payments. The same motivated patients to seek help. Beginning with a small fundraising discussion in the circle of friends, the project is growing in number of donors.
The scheme was initially set up to help six poor patients a year, collecting Rs 100 each from the familiar. Then there are the online fund raising sites. In the first case, the patient was able to collect Rs 2.5 lakh.
A Facebook page called “Help to Save a Life: Land a Helping Hand Exchange” is open to patients. The fund raising site sends aid money. The money is given to the patient’s family by check.
