This Move Will Enhance the Heritage Value of Temples In Car Street: Check Out

December 18: Mangalore Smart City Ltd (MSCL) in its move aimed at enhancing the heritage value of temples in Car Street. MSCL has mooted idea of developing the stretch of road starting from K S Rao Road up to Kulur Ferry Road junction near Srinivas ttheatre into a heritage walk.
This road starts with Sharavu Sri Maha Ganapathy Temple and line of temples on Car Street on road in front Sri Venkataramana Temple.
Mangalore South MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that this stretch of road, is around 1.1-km in length will be developed to highlight the local heritage. MLA Kamath mentioned that Rs 14.59 crore will be spent on this project. Project planners have submitted the draft detailed project report on December 3 and final draft has been submitted to MSCL.
The project involves setting up of footpaths on the entire stretch, installing decorative street lights, giving the temple façade a facelift to highlight their heritage value.
MLA Vedavyas Kamath said that he has also suggested to V Ponnuraj,  district secretary and chairman, MSCL to extend the scope of the heritage walk stretch to lower Car Street as well. If this proposal is accepted, it will help in tapping into heritage value that the tile factory on the Sulthan Batteri has. It will provide at least three entry/exit points to and from the city – at Sulthan Batheri, lower Car Street and Bunder which will also reduce congestion in the city, the MLA added.
