Dr Preetham Sharma A J Hospital and Research Centre introduced Da Vinci fourth-generation Robot-Assisted Surgical System worth Rs 15 crore.
DR Sharma said that the robot-assisted surgical system helps the surgeons improve the quality of the surgery by magnification, which helps conduct the surgery with precision. This will help to improve the surgical outcome. The system will be controlled and monitored by expert surgeons. as it does not have any artificial intelligence.
Dr Sharma mentioned that during longer procedures, surgeons tend to be affected by fatigue if the surgery is performed manually but with the robot-assisted surgical system, fatigue is reduced and there is also lower risk of infection. There will be no bigger incisions and scarring. With this, there is very less chance of blood loss and transfusions.
The system will be very helpful in performing advanced laparoscopic surgeries in Urology, Gynecology, Surgical Gastroenterology, Bariatric Surgery, Oncology Surgery and General surgery, he added.
