Threat Calls to Police Officers & Their Families: Special Cyber Cell Set Up for Investigation

December 25: Some police personnel and their family members have been getting threatening calls after the police firing incident on Thursday over the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA) and proposed National Register of Citizens (NRC). The threat calls are received from anonymous callers.
Several police personnel, including the city police have reportedly received threat calls. Audio messages against officers are making the rounds on social media.
City police commissioner Dr P S Harsha said that after the inspector was threatened, his personal photographs shared, and details of his wife and children were made available and other such personal details were also shared.
Therefore, a case has been registered at cybercrime, economic offences, and narcotics (CEN) police station and file a case against the anonymous miscreants. The police headquarters has sent several high ranking officials who had dealt with sensitive cases in the past, to assist in the investigation.
