Tobacco Products Sold Near Schools & Colleges in Mangalore City: MCC Told to Conduct Raid

The Dakshina Kannada district administration has directed the Mangalore City Corporation (MCC) to crack down on shops selling tobacco products within a 100m radius of schools and colleges in the city. Additional deputy commissioner Santhosh Kumar G said that the trade licenses of all shops selling tobacco within 100m of educational institutions should be cancelled immediately after the new rule, which makes a licence mandatory to sell tobacco products in urban areas, which is implemented within MCC limits.

The additional DC directed officials of the labour department, District Tobacco Control Cell, and Wenlock District Hospital to jointly carry out awareness drives against the use of tobacco in colonies of labourers. Conduct raids and cancel licences if shops sell tobacco products near schools, colleges, anganwadis, and religious centres,” he said.
