Toll collection at Surathkal postponed by three days: DC Sasikanth Senthil

July 17: A protest was staged by members of various organisations who gathered at Surathkal the toll gate at 7 am on Tuesday, where collection from KA19 registered vehicles was to begin. Like-minded organisations – including the Toll Gate Virodhi Horata Samithi, BJP and Congress gathered at the toll gate to oppose the toll collection.

Deputy Commissioner Sasikanth Senthil then passed an order to postpone toll collection at the Surathkal toll plaza by three days after which, the protesters withdrew from the place.

Police had strengthened the security near the toll plaza to maintain law and order. The committee members urged the authorities to merge Surathkal toll plaza with Hejamady toll as the distance between the two toll gates is only nine kilometres. The committee members even insisted MP Nalin Kumar Kateel to exert pressure on the National Highway Authority of India (NHAI) to reject the proposal to renew the contract.
