Towing Vehicles in Mangalore Becomes a Headache For Public: Have You Faced this?
January 13: Motorists in Mangalore are facing a lot is parking issues leading to towing of vehicles. Serious objections have been raised by the general public against the traffic police for imposing heavy fines after towing vehicles. The towing is being carried out by contractor chosen on tender basis.
Several parts of the city does not have reserved parking space in public places or roads and only few areas have no parking boards. However, towing of vehicles parked in no parking zones on a daily basis. Vehicles are towed even when the people are away for a minute for buying milk, newspapers, vegetables etc. Several people have even complained that their vehicles are towed 3 to 4 times a week.
As per rules, vehicles must be declared in no violation of the parking rules before being towed but this is not followed. Towing charges have also increased. Two wheelers are fined Rs 1650 and four wheelers are fined Rs 2000 whereas earlier the charges were Rs 750 for two wheeler and Rs 1100 for four wheelers.
