Udupi City Municipal Council Bans Plastic Usage: License to be Cancelled in Case of Violations

The Udupi city municipal council (CMC) has taken the decision to ban the plastic usage within its jurisdiction in order to prevent infectious diseases like dengue, malaria, and chicken pox during the rainy season.

Recent surveys conducted by the Municipal Council have resulted in fine of Rs 8,300 which was imposed on 9 shops for cleanliness violations. Additionally, inspections of 17 shop fronts led to fines amounting to Rs 46,500 for using prohibited plastic.

Despite warnings from the municipal council, if shop owners fail to maintain cleanliness and continue using banned plastic, the municipal commissioner has warned of revoking their business licenses.
