Udupi CMC to Build 1,000 Flats in Three Phases: People Under These Categories to Benefit

January 5: Udupi MLA Raghupathi Bhat said that a project is being undertaken by Karnataka Slum Development Board and City Municipality Council under which as many as 1000 flats will be built in three phases.
8.22 acres of land in Herga village in Saralebettu has been identified to carry out the project. As many as 1,000 eligible people, who fall under the houseless/landless SC/ST, minority and general categories will be given apartments under this project.
The foundation stone for 1 BHK flats under first phase will be laid on January 8 at Herga- Babbuswamy layout. As many as 460 flats will be constructed under the first phase.
The MLA said the Union government through Pradhan Mantri Awaz Yojana would contribute Rs 1.5 lakh to each beneficiary. The state government will give Rs 2 lakh each to the beneficiaries belonging to SC and ST communities while Rs 1.20 lakh will be given those belonging to general category. The beneficiaries belonging to the SC, ST communities will have to take a loan of Rs 2,58,695 and those belonging to general category will have to borrow Rs 3,08,695. They can repay the loan in 30 years time, he added.
