Viral Facebook Post ‘Hire Crow for Uttarakriye Ritual’ angers Animal Lover

July 14: Hindu death ceremony or Uttarakriye is complete only after feeding a crow. On the 11th day after the death of a person, the family serves food on banana leaf and believes that the departed soul comes in the form of a crow and eats the food served. Since cities are seeing a drastic fall in crow population, Prashanth Poojary has allegedly claimed in FB post that he has a crow and would like to take it to any Uttarakriye if required by the family members and once the crow eats the meal, he would return with it. This post has gone viral on Social media which has angered animal lovers.
Tauseef Ahmed an animal rescuer has approached range forest officer R Sridhar to take action against Prashanth Poojary. Tauseef mentioned that Crows should not be misused.
Responding the request made by Tauseef, RFO Sridhar said he will contact his counterpart in Udupi counterpart and request him to look into the case.
