Waste Collection Vehicles To Be Tracked: MCC To Take This Step On Trial Basis

January 26: A new barcode system will soon be introduced by The Mangalore Smart City Limited (MSCL) for efficient implementation of solid waste management (SWM) in all the 60 wards of Mangalore city.
A system has been introduced on a pilot basis in Mannagudda ward,  where all the 2,000 houses will be given barcodes and ll door-to-door waste collection vehicles will have to scan the barcode at the gates of houses so that the city corporation can track its movement on a real-time basis.
Soon this will be introduced in all  60 wards o the city.
At present, 132 vehicles used for solid waste management are being tracked through GPS. A command and control centre (CCC) is being set up at a cost of Rs 74 crore to make public administration and services more efficient. In addition to traffic management air quality monitoring, transport management and disaster management, the centre will also monitor the movement of all vehicles used for solid waste management.
