Water Level in Thumbe Dam Has Reduced to Below 4m Which is Sufficient Only Till May End

The water level in the Thumbe dam has been witnessing a drastic reduction. The water level has reduced to below 4m, against the maximum level of 6m. The water level in the dam as of Saturday, reduced to 3.8m. The water level in the Thumbe dam has reduced by an average of 6cm per day at present, even after the city corporation introduced water rationing.

There is no inflow into the dam, and the water level is depleting very fast. If the situation continues like this, the city corporation may only be able to lift water until May 31. It is difficult to draw water from the dam, if the level decreases further, as there will be sand accumulated on the surface.

Accordingly, water is being supplied on alternate days to the areas of Mangalore City South and Surathkal, instead of daily, as a precautionary measure, although the city has sufficient water until the end of May.
The DC has already banned industries from lifting water from the AMR dam, which lies upstream of Thumbe dam.
