Water Level to Increase in Thumbay Vented Dam From 6 Metres to 6.5 Metres

January 8: The Thumbay vented dam has a storing capacity of total 7 metres but the MCC has been storing only 6 metres off water so far. If it stores seven metres, the agricultural land of nearby areas will get submerged and and the MCC will have to shell out huge compensation to the owners of the said land. Therefore the Mangalore City Corportation is planning to store only 6.5 metres.
Right now the existing water level in the dam is 10.71 mcm and after the water level is increased to 6.5 metres, the total amount stored would be 12.5 mcm.
In order to increase the storing capacity in the dam, dredging work is being undertaken. 50% of the dredging work is completed and a total of 42 tonnes of sand has been lifted from the site.
