Will Someshwar Beach Get Walls to Prevent Sear Erosion? Proposal Submitted

September 17: Someshwar beach at Ullal witnessed worrisome sea erosion during monsoon. The authorities at port have decided to initiate the construction of a wall along its shores.

Minister Kota Srinivas Poojary during a review meeting on Monday said that the officials of the port department informed that a 2,318m-long sea wall would be constructed to stem further erosion of the coast at Someshwara Beach. The construction of the wall is estimated to cost Rs 13.57 crore and a proposal to the effect has been submitted to the state government for approval.
He also mentioned that the authorities of the port department are considering the possibility of building a retention wall extending from Someshwara through Ullal till Chithrapur. One of the proposals includes the construction of a 1,630m-long wall at a cost of Rs 6.09 crore, the other moots the building of a 1,605m-long structure at Rs 7.99 crore.
Minister Poojary said that the proposals have been submitted to the State Government.
