Mulki to be Upgraded as a Taluk
Mulki to be Upgraded as a Taluk
The proposal to upgrade Mulki as a taluk received government nod and the official declaration from the revenue department is expected in a week’s time. The decision was taken at a meeting of ministers and the MLAs.
In the last session of the state legislative assembly, I had demanded that Mulki should be declared as a taluk & now the government is declaring Mulki as a taluk among other five taluks.
During the British rule, Mulki had a moffusil court between 1863-1900. In fact, Mulki even had a police station apart from the one in Mangaluru. Mulki was a important centre in coastal district. Once upon a time Mulki had port, court, excise, customs, PWD offices.
However, the facilities were withdrawn after independence. The people of Mulki have been demanding taluk status for the last 40 years.
