Demand To Make Tulu An Official Language Of State: Coastal Leaders Meet CM
August 28: Leaders of Dakshina Kannada met chief minister B S Yediyurappa, and handed over a memorandum seeking to confer state official language status for Tulu. An appeal has been made for the recognition of Tulu as the official language of the state.
In accordance with Article 345-B of the Constitution, many states of India have declared the language with rich cultural background as the official language of the state. According to the 2011 census, about 18.05 lakh people speak Tulu fluently.
District in charge minister, Kota Srinivas Poojary, Moodbidri MLA Umanath Kotian, Mangaluru City North MLA Bharath Shetty, Puttur MLA Sanjeev Matandur, members of Karnataka legislative council Pratap Simha and Shantaram Siddi were present.
