School Headmaster suspended for taking part in election campaign

April 12: The headmaster of Kadavooru Government Model Higher Primary School has been suspended for violating model code of conduct. As per the model code of conduct, government employees are not allowed to take part in any political campaigns and programmes during the period.
During Chief Minister H D Kumaraswamy’s election rally which was held at Karkala on April 7, Headmaster Sundar had allegedly submitted a memorandum to the chief minister seeking distribution of DC manna land and self employment opportunities to poor landless SC/ST people, many of whom work on contract basis.
Sundar is thus charged with taking part in a political party’s meeting and carrying out a campaign. Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Hephsiba Rani Korlapati has suspended Sundar under The Representation of People Act, 1951 for participating in political activities since he is a government employee.
