A Waterway Between Bunder & Kuloor via Phalguni River Likely in Mangalore: Check Out

In order to reduce traffic congestion in Mangalore city and to help goods trucks leave or enter the city without hassles, the government has planned to establish a waterway between Bunder and Kuloor via Phalguni River.

Several trucks that enter Bunder, find it difficult to move due to traffic congestion. The waterway project with a RORO (Roll on-Roll Off) barge service on Phalguni River will help trucks to enter and leave the city easily and thereby save time and fuel. A proposal in this regard is in the final phase of preliminary works as the central government has already identified Phalguni River for waterways. Karnataka inland water transport department has prepared a plan to set up a project at an estimated cost of Rs 29 crore on a cost-sharing basis with the Centre.

In the initial stage, jetties will be built at Bunder and Kuloor. The work will be launched soon after obtaining environmental clearances.
