Auto Drivers Stage a Protest in front OF DC’s Office: These are the Demands

August 28: The members of Federation of Karnataka Autorickshaw Drivers Union (FKARDU), staged a protest in front of the DC’s office in the city on Tuesday, August 27.

CITU district general secretary Sunil Kumar Bajal addressed the protesters and said that the autorickshaw drivers are affected by the hike in the premium amount of the insurance and increase in the price of spare parts. He also mentioned that the amendment to Motor Vehicles Act has increased the fine for flouting the rules, which will have an adverse impact on the autorickshaw drivers. He urged the government to provide financial assistance of Rs 50,000 for old autorickshaws which will be discarded after 15 years.
Bajal said the government should also set up a welfare board for the autorickshaw drivers on the lines of beedi and construction workers’ boards and announce pension scheme and housing facilities for poor drivers, he demanded. The government should help the auto drivers in availing loan from nationalised banks as well, he added.
