Ban on MRPL drawing river water: Operations on its phase I unit shut down

May 10: Dakshina Kannada district administration directs MRPL to stop drawing water from their weir at Sarapady, upstream from the AMR dam at Shamboor. As a result the state’s only refinery has shut down its operations on its phase I unit.
Deputy commissioner Sasikanth Senthil said that the available water in the weir will strictly be utilised to meet the drinking water needs of adjacent gram panchayats as they are facing an acute shortage of drinking water.
Senthil said, adding the district administration would revisit the order if the situation improves and the catchment area receives inflow.
