City Bus Issues in Mangalore Are Never Ending: Citizens Complain to Police Commissioner
Mangalore City police commissioner Kuldeep Kumar R Jain had received 32 calls from the public between 10 am to 11 am during the phone in programme.
Issues regarding city buses were discussed the meeting. The callers brought to the notice of the police commissioner issues such as a few buses not operating to interior areas in the city, or reducing trips, despite having permits. A senior citizen told the city’s top cop about the height of the footboard in the several buses, making it difficult for them to board the bus. Another senior citizen said that the seats were not being reserved for them.
The callers also demanded zebra crossings and speed-breakers, to which the commissioner promised to conduct a survey to study the need for it.
The other issues raised were reserved parking in front of shops, parking of abandoned vehicles, footpath encroachments by migrants who kept the place untidy, beggars and homeless occupying a majority of the space in bus stands.
