Cleanliness drive to clear garbage dumped on roads

May 11: Cleanliness Ambassador for Dakshina Kannada district Sheena Shetty has written to the deputy commissioner and the zilla panchayat CEO to initiate measures on taking up cleanliness drives to clear garbage dumped on the either sides of the roads across the district. Kasargod Deputy Collector D Sajith Babu inaugurated the cleanliness drive, and urged the people to convert wet waste at home.
She stated that waste continues to be dumped on the either sides of the roads, into the drains, in the rivers and in the water bodies and these wastes need to be cleared before the onset of monsoon. Dumping of the waste will result in the clogging of stormwater drains, which will result in artificial flooding during monsoon. Strict action should be initiated against the dumping of garbage on the either sides of the roads.
NSS volunteers, students, police, members of Kudumbashree, labourers of MGNREGS, members of the various residents’ associations, members of various organisations, cleaned heaps of garbage that were dumped on 230-km stretch in Kasargod district. The District Swacchata Mission handed over masks, gloves and plastic bags to the volunteers for taking up cleanliness drives. All the collected waste were dumped on a government land in Seethangoli, Cheemeni and Pilikod for scientific disposal.
