Cops from Subramanya travel even in lorries for their duties: Hats off to their dedication

June 8: The personnel at Subrahmanya police station often travel 230 km with accused to Mangalore and then back. This is a tedious journey due to the absence of a higher court in the taluk and second since the district jail is situated in Mangalore city.
if any case is registered late in the evening and the accused has to be produced before a higher court, the police personnel have travelled even in lorries to get to Mangalore.
Once a criminal case is registered at the station, the accused has to be produced before a local court in Sullia, which is nearly 40 km away from the station. It takes nearly 90 minutes to reach Sullia bus stand and later hire an auto-rickshaw and travel two kilometres to reach the local court. Further, they have to wait until the court procedures are over, which usually gets over by evening. If there is any delay, the accused and escorting
personnel will return to the station late in the evening .
When there is non-availability of KSRTC buses, police have been using private buses, tankers, lorry and whichever vehicle is available.
There are 19 villages under its jurisdiction and covers 212 sq kilometres. A higher court and a district jail in Puttur or Kadaba, will make the work easy for the police personnel in Subramanya police station.
