Cyclone Kyarr Nearing: Coastal Districts on Red Alert

October 25: The coastal districts have been receiving heavy to moderate rainfall since Wednesday night. The district received 61mm of rain in the last 24 hours against a normal quota of 6mm for the day in October—the departure being 932%.
An Indian Meteorological Department alert stated that with possibility of Cyclone Kyarr forming any time soon heavy rain will keep lashing the coast. It also stated the well-marked low pressure area over east central Arabian Sea would gradually intensify into a depression.
Kerala, coastal Karnataka and Malnad regions are expected to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall in the next two days.
The alert also warned fishermen not to venture into the Sea along and off the Karnataka coast during the next 48 hours. Fishermen out in the deep sea have been advised to return to the coast.
As a precautionary measure, holiday has been declared to schools and colleges on Friday, October 25.
