Dakshina Kannada District Administration Plans to Survey Dams to Solve Water Cricis

District administration of Dakshina Kannada has planned to conduct a survey of main dams of the district using drones to find a solution to the water scarcity that is bothering the district during the summer months. Those who do the survey through drones have been already approached by the administration and the survey is likely to be conducted once the elections are over.

The survey will help to know how much of deep silt should be removed in AMR, Thumbay and Harekala dams so that more water can be stored in these dams. The survey will also give an account of the number of days the water can be used. A comprehensive report will be submitted to the government by the district administration.

There are 342 vented dams in the district including Thumbay, AMR, Malavoor and newly constructed Harekala. There are 41 vented dams in Mangalore legislative constituency, 35 in Mangalore North, 49 in Mulky-Moodbidri, 38 in Bantwal, 64 in Puttur, 53 in Sullia and 62 in Beltangady taluk that are maintained by minor irrigation department.
