Demand for Designer Drugs Highly increasing – MLA Dr. Bharath Shetty

Designer Drugs an untested psychoactive substances is highly in demand as it is available easily said MLA Dr Bharath Shetty after inaugurating the One Day Seminar on “Designer Drugs – an Escalating public health challenge”.

Dr Bharath Shetty mentioned that these drugs were entering the underground market with several nicknames like spice, bath salts, meow meow & ecstasy. The drug is called Designer as they are based on existing illegal recreating drugs with chemical structures that are modified using various degree to evade drug loss. the Number of Designer drugs is around 400 currently as new drug enter the market everyday.

Dr. G Shreekumar Menon head of Centre for Narcotics & Psychotropic Substances (CNPS) said that the one day seminar was organized by the newly established CNPS at MAHE. This was attended by students, scholars, officers from Police Departmente, Custom Departmeent,CISF & RFSL.
